I explore the potential of items and materials that I collect, source and find to develop sculptural art works. The development and process of recreating, reusing, repurposing and enhancing these items and materials is a central idea to do with hope, change, progression, restoration and transformation, and they often dictate the direction, meaning and final result of a work. The marks and wear from previous use or the familiarity of some of the items and materials I use, alongside some of the unconventional ways of making, become part of that central idea and the aesthetic of my work. The central idea also forms links to broader ideas and influences based on nature, identity, experiences and beliefs, and its often in the development and making process of a work that these ideas develop further and are inspired the most.

I often explore the use of wire as a sculptural component in some of my work, due to its versatility and aesthetic qualities to enhance a work, and also the design and making of crosses as a familiar form that carries a lot of meaning and that is symbolic to my own Christian faith.

As a side project I also create decorative goods from reused beads, wood and other items, alongside enhancement materials such as wire, paracord, jute twine, etc to sell at art and craft fairs.

I am originally from South Yorkshire and also studied there, receiving a First Class BA (hons) in Fine Art and Crafts in 2008. Since then I have worked creatively in various and different industries, including retail display, art teaching and charity based creative support work. My art practice has developed at different times throughout that period with opportunities to be involved with art projects, exhibitions and to develop and lead creative workshops. My main focus now is to develop my art practice further with the experience and skills I have gained.

I have explored and developed my art practice at various times throughout my creative career and most recently again in the past few years. In the past, I have exhibited in and around Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire, including Open Art Exhibitions in Saltaire, Scunthorpe (2021 Visual Arts Centre), and Doncaster (Museum and Art Gallery), and in other independent galleries and venues in Sheffield and Leeds.
